ABALOBI is a hybrid social enterprise. ABALOBI ICT4FISHERIES is a registered public non-profit and public benefit organisation backed by ABALOBI LABS.
We seek to contribute towards thriving, equitable and sustainable small-scale fishing communities globally, through the development of Technology For Good.
We are a diverse team of scientists, small-scale fishers, fisheries experts, community engagement practitioners, developers, environmental anthropologists, seafood transformation experts, food systems advisors and social change innovators.
We are a South African-based organisation with international reach. We partner with like-minded organisations across the globe to deploy our solutions in various small-scale fisheries contexts. Key partners include: Blue Ventures, Irish Islands Marine Resource Organisation (IIMRO), Future Of Fish , Pesca Sustenavel, Seychelles Hook & Line Fishers Organisation, Ocean Outcomes, WWF, Conservation International, World Conservation Society, Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions, SOPACT.
Our modular technology ecosystem, including our FISHER-to-MARKETPLACE and MONITOR solutions, are packaged as Software As A Service (SaaS). This service is underpinned by Community Development, a Community-Supported Fishery Model, Community-level Fisheries Improvement and Impact Measurement.
Our data elements and database structures follow the GDST1, GSSI and other ISO standards.
COMMUNITY-SUPPORTED FISHERY MODEL
Through our technology, we enable small-scale fishing communities to activate Community-Supported Fisheries (CSF) that promote fair market access, transparent supply chains, and broader food security. In South Africa, Fish With A Story represents the implementation of this CSF model.
